Joy Tru combines traditional folk and heartfelt harmonies with beatboxing, electronic layers, and flutes to create unique, honest indie folk songs evoking love and hope. Imagine The Cranberries becoming an acoustic band, with Grace Slick, Joan Baez, and Alanis Morrissette occasionally sitting in. Fun, right?

In addition to her originals, she plays a wide variety of cover songs ranging from Woody Guthrie to Katy Perry. She has shared shows with Ben Solee, After Jack, Lobo Marino, Darrin Bradbury, and Alison Self. She plays at cafes, restaurants, farmers markets, wineries, brewing companies, dinner shows, churches, private parties and more! She’s fun for kids of all ages!

Joy just completely nailed it, hit it out of the park, knocked my socks off, any other cliche can be inserted that means awesome. What a performance. Beautiful, caring, heartfelt, and important songwriting delivered with solid guitar work… and a voice that I don’t have the vocabulary to describe. I can only thank you, Joy so much for sharing your talent on my radio show this morning.

Joey Ritenhour, host of “The Americana Trail” on WUVT

Sometimes in life you are blessed in such a way that only touches you at the deepest reaches of your soul.  Joy, not only draws you into this space, but allows you to feel refreshed by the experience of her own unique and creative talent.

Gregory Goebel, Music Director at Unity of Roanoke Valley

Joy was brilliant. The only other musician I’ve seen perform looping that well has been Thom Yorke from Radiohead.

Bloomington, Indiana fan

Not only does her voice put you in mind of a young, sober Grace Slick but she also conducts herself with poise and professionalism. It does nothing but warm my heart to step in my living room to see my guests dancing and playing instruments to Joy’s performance.
